Technical Specifications
The Giulia GTA was a souped-up, limited-production, aluminum-bodied version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT—weighing some 500 lbs. less than its steel-bodied brethren. Only 500 GTAs were produced. The GTA corsa had 60% more power, many unique racing parts and was even more exclusive than the "standard" GTA. While no official records are known to exist, it is believed no more than 50 or so GTAs were prepared for racing by Autodelta, Alfa Romeo's racing division. Only 8 RHD GTA corsas were sent to the U.S. by Alfa Romeo to compete in the Trans-Am series. AR752507 is one of those 8 cars.
The mission of the GTA was to win races and attract new customers to Alfa Romeo showrooms, and it succeeded admirably on both counts. In addition to the 1966 and 1970 Trans-Am Championships, the GTA won the European Touring Car Championship for Alfa Romeo in 1965, 1966 and 1967, as well as many other national championships.
